Room Ten Mapua School 2013: Welcome Back!

Room Ten Mapua School 2013: Welcome Back!: Welcome back to 2013! We've had a busy start to the year, with swimming sports, and preparing for the Triathlon. This year, we're the year 8's of the school. Our first big moment of being a year 8 was sitting on the chairs at assembly!

In a weeks time, we will be performing our House Leaders Speeches. Personally I'm extremely excited that I'm finally got the chance to be the House Leader for Blue House. Though some of us are nervous, we all want to be a House Leader. Some Competition!

The Swimming Sports was great fun. Red House won the Senior team competition, and Blue House won the Middle team competition. Go Blue!

So we're ready and rearing to go for a new year, full of learning and lots of House events that  we will all have the chance to lead and be great role models! Hope you'll keep looking at our blog!

Totaranui... Our way! Part 1

On Monday Room 10 got to school packed the cars and took off to Kaiteriteri. Why? School camp! Room 10 was heading off to Kaiteriteri to catch an Abel Tasman sea shuttle to Torrent Bay.

The boat we went on was called the Altaz and was one of the smaller shuttles. When we got to Torrent bay we started walking to Cleopatras’s pool. Cleopatra’s pool is a place between Torrent bay and Anchorage. It has a natural water slide carved out of the rock by water.

We spent about an hour at the pool going down the rockslide and eating lunch. When we were finished we walked to Anchorage where we had planned for the boat to pick us up. This boat was a bigger shuttle and it was called the Abel Dominator. When we got to Totaranui we walked up to the homestead, got a tour, unpacked, had tea and then we did a scavenger hunt around Totaranui. After that we did group entertainment. Tonight it was the Angry Ducks ‘possum hunt’, with a twist. The groups had to find the possums but there were also letters on the possums that they had to unscramble in to a sentence. That sentence was a clue to where the prize was hidden.

After everyone had found their prize (a lollipop under their pillow) we went up to the kitchen and wrote diaries for the day. We ended a great first day with hot chocolate and went to bed.

One day down, four to go!

House Leaders 2013

Some Exciting Changes!

This year we have an outstanding group of young people in year 8.  There is  a huge amount of leadership potential amongst the group and we would like to give as many different people the chance to "be all they can" as possible.

House Leaders and Deputies will be selected following a group interview  at the following times:

Tuesday 1pm - Red House, Tuesday 1.15pm - Yellow House

Wednesday 1pm - Green House, Wednesday 1.15pm Blue House

This will be followed with the  presentation of a speech on Thursday afternoon (1:30pm).

As well as house leaders and deputies, all students will be on the "Leadership Committee" for their house.  They will be involved in organising and leading a variety of events.

Each committee will select an Arts Captain, Academic Captain, Cultural Captain and Sports Captain.  These people will have the role of working alongside the house captain and deputy.  They will be selected by their own leadership committee.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this fantastic group of students leads the school.
