Swim till you Win!

Recently, on Friday the 15th of February, the year fives, sixes, sevens, and eights went out to Riwaka School for 2013’s Swimming Sports!

The Mapua School swimming sports takes place every year in term one.  In this event, kids compete in races of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and for those who can, the butterfly demonstration.

This is a house event, so everyone gets creative in the ways to show off their house colours.  One of the biggest races is the house relay. This is where one year eight, one year seven, one six, and one five from each house do all swimming styles in one race against the other houses which earns you a lot of house points.

The second biggest race is the ‘Carry the Teacher race’ where four of the strongest of the year eights carry their house teacher on a chair from one end of the pool to the other! In last place was yellow house, third place blue house, second place green house... and that leaves red for first place, BUT red house cheated by pulling along the edge of the pool- so that leaves green house first for that race!

The winning house of the swimming sports this year was red house, amazingly in second place was yellow house, in third place was blue, and in last was green house.
